Broom Bezzums: Standing Strong
“Superlatives are no longer enough to describe the English duo Broom Bezzums, who live in Germany. Their previous album had already reached the musical Champions League. In what league does their current acoustic mix of wonderful instrumental pieces and exceptionally strong, mostly original modern folk songs play? It is meaningful, catchy and spirited. And anyone who can reinterpret a classic like ’House of the Rising Sun’, which has been played to death, in such an exciting way with just a violin and vocals has to be very, very good.” For the jury: Mike Kamp
DEUTSCHER TEXT: “So langsam fehlen die Superlative, um das in Deutschland beheimatete englische Duo »Broom Bezzums« zu beschreiben. Schon das vorige Album hatte ja sozusagen die musikalische Champions League erreicht – in welcher Liga spielt dann aber die aktuelle akustische Mixtur aus wunderbaren Instrumentals und ausgesprochen starken, meist eigenen modernen Folksongs? Das ist aussagekräftig, ohrwurmverdächtig und zum Mitsingen. Und wer sogar einen fast schon zu Tode genudelten Klassiker wie »House of the Rising Sun« nur mit Fiddle und Gesang aufregend neu interpretieren kann, der muss schon sehr, sehr gut sein.” Für die Jury: Mike Kamp
